Peanut Butter & Chicken Nuggets
The most innocent minds can be the most powerful. But what happens when you’re too thick-headed to let them in?
Dan McGregor built an empire by controlling people, outcomes, and emotions. When his developmentally delayed brother Brett is placed in his care, he thinks he can control this too. He chooses an up-market residential facility to care for his brother, believing this place can provide the care and attention Dan doesn’t have time for.
But the colorful walls and welcoming atmosphere conceals an opportunistic monster, and Brett is abused by people Dan thought he could trust. Dan – underprepared and overconfident – takes Brett into his own home, trying and failing to settle his traumatized brother. The situation spirals and Dan is faced with a choice: accept help, or risk losing his brother completely.
As Dan navigates caregiving, he’s forced to confront how much he’s forgotten about caring for others, how much that has already cost him, and how his arrogance led him to put his innocent brother in harm’s way.
This is a story about learning to be there. About rebuilding what you destroyed when you became too selfish to protect it. And about how the most important lessons can come from people and places you least expect.
