My first blog post! Yay!

Total audience: zero! But that’s okay. We all gotta start somewhere. So I’ll start here, with a little update on the publication of my little book: Peanut Butter and Chicken Nuggets. I had plans to query for an agent. I tried, I promise I really did try. But my heart wasn’t in it and I decided to Self-publish. I’m still interested in traditional publishing, but not now.

I told myself I could publish PBCN by July 1st. This turned out to be a bit of a lie.

I’m trying to see things in the best light possible. I have a cover sorted. I think I’ve worked out which platforms I’m going to use. I’ve found an artist to do some promotional images. I think I have the technical matters worked out. The hold up now: After calling my manuscript “complete” for months, I couldn’t resist one more pass and now I’m doing a massive edit simply because I decided some things could have been done better. And because to me, calling something “done” is always tough.

So I don’t think I will hit the 1st July. But it won’t be far behind.

In the meantime, I’m trying, with varying degrees of success, to create an online presence. This has proven to be a bigger challenge than writing the novel. I’m severely introverted. Sharing myself online feels completely impossible. I see these writers who post themselves sharing their stories and I envy them. I’ll never be able to do that.

But the cool thing is: even without showing my face, I’ve managed to get 200 people on Instagram interested in my journey. That is far beyond what I expected, and I’m grateful to that group of followers. SubStack has been kind too, with 48 following. That feels pretty good. I know I need to pay more attention to these platforms to keep growing, but the final edit has all my attention now.

So what’s next? Finishing the edit. Figuring out the last bits of self-publishing. Learning how to market a book. And somewhere in there, figuring out how to write a blog.

If you’ve discovered this and start reading, thank you!

Love,
Kirby

P.S.: Here’s a promo image from PBCN. I hope you like it!
